"The State shall actively
promote and maintain the welfare of the people by adopting,
inter alia, policies aimed at the following: maintenance of
ecosystems, essential ecological processes and biological
diversity of Namibia and utilization of living natural resources
on a sustainable basis for the benefit of all Namibians, both
present and future"
- The Constitution of Namibia, Article 95 (L) -
Namibia was one of the first countries in the world to include
environmental protection in its constitution. In addition, a
number of acts, policies, treaties and other binding agreements
dealing with environmental protection have been or are being
established. Most importantly the Environmental Management Act,
proclaimed in 2007, and its regulations as gazetted in 2012
provides the foundation for the protection of the environment by
promoting the sustainable management of the environment and
the use of natural resources by establishing principles for
decision making on matters affecting the environment.
Geo Pollution Technologies recognizes the value of the
environment, not only from a direct or indirect use of
resources perspective, but also in terms of the
intrinsic value of a healthy environment and the potential
future use of its natural resources. We however also
realize that it is sometimes necessary to find a compromise
between environmental protection and human development. We
therefore strive towards an environment where human development
can co-exist within a healthy ecological environment, while
providing benefits to all of Namibia.
